Algeria spends $157 on each citizen in health care

Despite considerable financial subsidies allocated to health sector, indexes being displayed by international institutions reflect that Algeria is still far from being able offering quality services to patients.
Financial Law of 2009 has allocated AD178.322 billions to health sector, comparing with AD143.966 billions in 2008.
The World Bank’s report mentioned that expenditures of Algeria in health sector during the last ten years has taken an escalating trend, going from USD 125.7 for each person in 2006, to USD 141,7 in 2007, and then USD 157.7 in 2008.
The World Bank’s report entitled: “improving efficiency of health expenditures”, says that the number of specialists and doctors who shifted fro public service to ******* service is estimated by 110% during the last decade. It indicates that there had been 15 thousands specialists and doctors serving in the ******* sector during 2007, compared with just 7240in 1991. Such figure reflects the emergence of new ******* medical clinics and hospitals which reached 115 units in 2008, as alternative to the failure of public service hospitals. The same source mentioned that 44 of specialist doctors operate in the ******* sector, while 34% in public service, noting that such a rate is in a constant increase.
