Once I've read an African novel which was THINGS FALL APRT by CHINUA ACHEBE who is an African writer.
In that novel I've learnt a lot of African customs and folk tales they said in the novel that mothers used to tell their children these silly tales so let's have a look at one of them
The tale is about tortoise they said once the inhabitants of the sky invited all
the birds of the world for a feast ,so all of them prepared themselves to go and have some fun in addition to food of course ,then tortoise wanted to go with them because he was hangry and didn't eat for two moons he asked them to take him but they disliked him that's why they said no,but he begged them and he was a good speaker that's why he convinced them . so each bird gave him a feather so he got two wings and went with them to the sky .there ,as we said he was a good speaker ,they asked him to give the speech of the meeting so he started talking and he asked them to choose new names because this is the costum.and birds don't know a lot as he knows so they said yes each bird chose a name and he too he called himself ALL OF YOU .
When the people of the sky served the meal he said wait, to whom you have prepared this meal ????
They said;to all of you.
He sid look I'm ALL OF YOU so it is for me he ate all good things and drank till he was full in side his shell.
Then the birds ate the less good meal some of them returned with empty stomachs and of course they were angry with the tortoise each bird took his feather back and so the tortoise couldn't go home he asked them to take a message to his wife but they refused exsept for the parrot who said ok I'll take it
My wife put all the soft things in our house out side
but when the bird went he said your husband tells you to put all the hard things out side
The tortoise looked from above and saw his wife putting these stuff he didn't see what kind of stuff
so he jumped thinking that he'll find a good bed heheheh
But he was broken into pieces ,but he didn't die ,his wife brought him a good doctor who gothered his shell and fixed it and ...
That's why tortoise got that kind of shell not soft at all
